We realize that HJF's operational activities are managing natural resources to support civilization and human life. We perform in reference to environmentally friendly principles, maintaining local ecosystems, and sustainability.
RKEF technology for processing high-grade nickel ore requires relatively high energy sources so the availability of stable and reliable electricity in a relatively limited operational area demands us to build a power generating unit independently. Efficient use of energy sources in our operations is carried out by using a number of technological devices as well as routine monitoring to ensure that there are no impacts that may arise and it is aligned to government quality standards. One of them include conducting continued air quality monitoring at the stacks and sampling of air emissions and ambient.
The flora and fauna preservation around the operational area is also our program to ensure minimal disturbance to natural conditions and local ecosystems. This activity is carried out by an internal team and involves independent experts. We also report all monitoring results regularly to the government.
Waste management is performed by performing waste segregation of domestic waste and hazardous and toxic waste. Domestic waste will be placed in a self-managed integrated waste processing plant while the hazardous toxic waste will be stored in a licensed waste storage prior to being processed for use or processed by a licensed waste processing party outside of operation area.
Together with independent parties, we monitor the ecology of the waters around the operational area such as the condition of sea and surface water quality, plankton, benthos, coral reefs, fish (reef fish and freshwater fish), megabenthos, metal content in fish tissues, and quality and sediment characteristics.
In addition, we are obliged to maintain the biodiversity of local waters by targeting to deploy more than 1,000 artificial reefs. Coral reefs play significant roles in the waters ecosystem to maintain the life of reef fish and other marine biotas, which provide economic benefits for the community.
